I can't really express how grateful I am to be surrounded by this much beauty. The land here just keeps on giving. Not only edible treasures like wild berries and fresh vegetables, it also offers cozy, soft and fluffy spots to take a nap, fresh oxygen, negative ions from the waterfalls, and endless beauty.
Iceland is constantly reaffirming to me that being surrounded by beauty is vital for mental wellbeing, and I don't mean this in a superficial way because it is not really about aesthetics. I don't know how to explain this feeling just yet.
Here are a few images that may explain it better. I appreciated the golden light and stillness of this evening very much.
Edit (18.10.20):
I couldn't find the right words to explain my feelings, so I found some research instead.
Here is a study that backs up that being in awe of something, such as nature or art, and going for regular "awe walks", enhances feelings of wellbeing, gratitude, compassion, generosity and humility.
I think that is pretty amazing. It's so incredibly simple, but if we just dedicated a little more time to being present and acknowledging the wonders around us, we would collectively feel better, and act in a more compassionate way.
